Silverwood Recruitment Ltd are excited to be working with a local client, on the recruitment of a Head of Sales.


Reporting to the MD the Head of Sales will be part of the Leadership team responsible for delivering a strategy of profitability. The Head of Sales will inspire, lead, motivate and develop the sales team to achieve outstanding performance while complying with corporate operational procedures and guidelines as well as Environmental, Health & Safety laws and regulations.


The responsibilities of the Head of Sales will include but not be limited to:

  • Day to day management of the trade & renewables offering
  • Developing strategy and driving all aspects of operational delivery.
  • Management of key strategic partnerships
  • Responsibility for people and performance management.
  • Improving business processes and overall effectiveness.
  • In conjunction with the Sales team, set the sales direction for the region, including the delivery of the business plan and establishing/communicating aims and objectives.
  • To identify and develop new and existing major accounts to maximise the growth of sales
  • Maximises sales, GP, growth and cash flow by effective debtor management. Contributes to budgeting process and provides statistical information as required.
  • Develop a strong sales culture, build close relationships within branch network and lead regional development strategy.
  • Ensure outstanding customer care through customers and branches to realise market potential; ensure regular personal face to face meetings with large major customers.
  • Working closely and liaising weekly with the Head of Sourcing & Head of Pricing.
  • Line management responsibility for Sales Managers providing leadership, coaching and direction.
  • Lead the recruitment, retention and development of the sales team within the area.
  • Liaise with marketing/ category management on new products and literature.
  • Developing and using formal and informal networks both within and outside the business.
  • Coordinates the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports in line with company guidelines.
  • Maintains current information as to trends and developments in business; environment and presents recommendations for marketing of programs.


The Head of Sales will meet the following criteria:

  • Someone who thrives in management with a proven track record in developing strategy, overseeing business improvement and understanding operational effectiveness.
  • Experience delivering successful growth initiatives.
  • Effective people management – colleagues, suppliers and customers.
  • Problem solving and project management.
  • Financially experienced – budgets, delivery and P&L responsibility.
  • Demonstrates clear capability in managing complex issues and delivered sustainable results.
  • Exceptional sales and customer relationship building skills.
  • Significant sales experience within the industry with a proven track record of delivery.
  • Good understanding of competitors, and their limitations.
  • Preferred background – Plumbing, Heating, Renewables, Building Services or Retail Distribution Sector.
